Fourteen junior to senior 4-H members from Kern County showcased sewing skills at West High to judges and earned medals for top finishers in each division. Dr. Harry E. Blair Kern County superintendent of schools received a Certificate of Achievement from the National District Attorneys Association and the National Council of Juvenile Court Judges for his cooperative work with Kern County Probation Department and at Tehachapi California Correctional Institute for Men. The program supports continued education for wards of the court and aids their return to society. The story also notes early American temperance efforts by Connecticut farmers in 1789.
