Sam Cresswell leads Shafter high school metal shop where each student serves in daily rotating roles foreman clean-up tool-checker and roll-taker. The course divides into five areas forging finishing sheet metal welding and art metal work with projects in small groups to build vocational skills and practical experience.
Mrs. Charles Tyner was honored Saturday at a pink and blue shower styled as a breakfast hosted by Mrs. Burley Deopley with cohosts Mrs. Lowell Todd and Mrs. Grant Jensen. Guests enjoyed breakfast and unwrapped gifts displayed on a blue and pink daisied coffee table centerpiece.
A breakfast gathering lists attendees including Mmes Cornell Gaye Pare Hal Williams David Marsh Henry Schacht Charles Eas Elliott Garrison Wilson Stone Dan Murfin and Dennis, among others, reflecting a social column blessing.
Freshman homemaking students at Shafter High School under Miss Shirley Moore designed a children’s party project. They merged food study with child care lessons, drafting menus, step by step conduct plans, and games. The parties aim to apply classroom principles and provide learning for the students, with evaluation of menus and activities afterward.
Seniors near graduation prepare for caps and gowns on June 3 at Shafter High. A Baccalaureate practice follows at Berbara Hardwick and Bob Taylor Baptist. Rev Walter Grossman to give invocation. Senior Breakfast June 7 at 8:00 am chaired by Joyce McDonald. Senior Assembly June 7 with awards. Commencement practices run June 7 to 9 with Doris Wilson in charge. Senior Tea June 8 from 3 to 4 pm hosted by the Shafter Faculty Wives.
Murray Arnold son of Mr and Mrs P L Arnold will take the job as news editor of the Santa Barbara News Press on June 1. A former Shafterite, he has served as city editor of the Bakersfield Californian for four years. The Arnolds are currently vacationing.
Midshipman 1/c John L. Kelly, son of Hon and Mrs H W Kelly of 665 Maine Ave, is scheduled to graduate from the U S Naval Academy on Friday June 3. He entered the academy in July 1951 by a secretary of the Navy appointment after serving in the UC Berkeley NROTC unit. He is a Shafter High School graduate.
