Saturday's festival events were attended by guests in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Cooper. Visiting the Coopers from Bakersfield were Dr. and Mrs. Robert Foote, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hill and Mr. and Mrs. J. Freiman.
A farewell party was given Tuesday evening for 21 Richland Primary School teachers on the lawn of Mrs Louise Neu feld at 629 Central Ave. Co hosts were Mrs Neu feld and Mrs Letha Brock, the chief school principal.
Council members discussed a proposed slum clearance project led by FPHA officials. A survey suggested 35 units for Shafter. officials said city building codes apply and no racial discrimination, while a city housing authority is typically not economically feasible.
Mr and Mrs B D Michelmore of Paso Robles flew to Shafter on Sunday afternoon to visit Mr and Mrs Phil Clarkin. The Michelmores landed at Minter Field and returned home later that evening.
C K Patton and Verlon Mouser, both of Shafter, intend to sell to Lewis J Woodard of Van Nuys all stock in trade and fixtures of Patton's Automotive Parts, a Shafter service station business located at 249 Central Avenue Kern County. Sale and transfer will occur at 10:00 A M on Monday in January 1950 at Champion Mortimore law offices 422 James Street Shafter California.
A fundraising dance for St. Therese Church is set from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. on June 3 at the Women's Clubhouse. The Mexican colony Catholic Club hosts with music by Pablo Buentos and his orchestra and a trio of boys singing Mexican songs. Chairman Luzio Lopéz, assisted by Pauline Barker and Tio Lopez.
Maple teachers and trustees with their families were guests of Mr and Mrs John Wiens at an informal picnic in their garden. Attendees included Ralph Gribble Elmer Engel Jimmy and Nancy Bill Siemens Billy and Wayne Paul Wiebe Mrs Marion Wells Verna Spreickler Delores Fiel and Barbara Wiens the host family daughter.
Dr. and Mrs. O. G. Ohlsson attended the annual California Osteopaths convention in Sacramento. Mrs. Ohlsson was named president elect of the auxiliary and will assume office in a year. The couple then spent the weekend in Carmel.
A summer program schedule lists weekly Thursday night events at the Veterans Memorial Hall in Farrell, varying from band concerts to movies. A separate recreation program at the North Shafter Labor Camp is run by Rev. and Mrs. Chris Ummel and operates Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
A rummage sale will be conducted from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday in front of the Central. Proceeds benefit a local cause.
