Resignation of Richland Superintendent Barber Effective 1979
Superintendent Eyron Barber submitted his resignation to the Board of Trustees effective June 29 1979. He will become Administrative Consultant on the Kern County Supervisor of Schools staff. Barber has led the district eight and a half years after eight and a half years as Deputy Superintendent. He noted upgrades to programs and services and praised staff and elected board members. Barber and his family will remain Shafter residents.

Vandalism hits Richland Junior High in weekend breakins
Richland Junior High was vandalized Saturday night May 19 with nine rooms damaged and walls torn. A five officer task force led by Glenn Bladwin investigates incidents from the weekend. a $500 reward offers for those responsible. No items were reported missing. flags damaged and a brush thrown through a window. Fingerprints are being analyzed with FBI crime lab results awaited to identify suspects. Shafter has hired two new officers, Larry Dale Que and Richard Martin, to bolster patrols.

Mizener resigns from Shafter recreation district post
David Mizener submitted his resignation from the Shafter area Recreation District Board on May 21 after City Attorney Al Mortimore ruled a conflict of interest exists between his $3.25 per hour swim coach job and board membership. Mizener notes the district has no funds and serves in an advisory capacity, and cites the conflict as the reason for stepping down. Fred Starrh Micky Gladden W C Walker and Dick Larson were elected with him last year. City spokesmen say he cannot be paid as a swim coach while serving on the board.

Robert E. Ross has been appointed manager of Bank of America's Shafter branch. A 14 year veteran, he previously served as assistant vice president for loans at the Lodi office and real estate loan specialist. He and his wife Diane have two children and he studied at College of the Sequoias and Fresno State University.

Memorial Day Services at Shafter Cemetery
Memorial Day services will be held at Shafter Cemetery on Sunday May 27 at 2 30 p m. Sponsored by the American Legion with Grady Barrett heading the committee Reverend Owen Onsum will speak and veterans graves will bear small American flags. The Wasco VFW and Shafter American Legion Color Guard will provide firing squad and an avenue of flags from veteran caskets. Several groups will wreath the Memorial Shrine as names of buried veterans from 1976 77 and 78 are listed.

Achievement Banquet Honors Local Students and Districts
The twenty se ad wna held last week at the Richland Cafeteria. About 70 students received certificates representing Richland Shafter High School Buttonwillow Lerdo Maple and Rio Bravo-Greeley districts. Master of ceremonies was Mr. Leslie Franks of Rio Bravo-Greeley Board. Certificates presented by Shafter Mayor Pro-tem Loyd Link and Chamber of Commerce President Mary. The event was co sponsored by the Chamber and a High School girls vocal ensemble under Mike Hutchenson. Steak dinner prepared by Shafter High School staff and served by Opal Reynolds and staff.
