Farm Camp Store Plans New Building At Shafter Camp
A new frame building 22 by 40 feet will house the cooperative store at the Shafter Farm Workers community, with start around July 1. The store will include canning space for fruit for family use only, rent to be paid from profits, and current daily gross sales around $100, down from $70 during potato season. Two percent of gross goes to the camp council for recreation and rent platforms, with milk sold below regular price and a potential later cooperative setup to return profits to individuals based on purchases.
