Pioneering Shafter Leader Frederick E Mannel Remembered
Frederick E Mannel arrived in 1912 and became a leading Shafter settler and civic figure. He built orchards and vineyards, served as justice of the peace and first city and police judge, and inspired memorials such as Mannel Tract and Mannel Hall. He belonged to Kern County Chamber of Commerce and Farm Bureau boards and helped form the Elks Lodge and Shafter Rotary Club. Nightengale notes his influence in Kern County development and Scout coding classes.
