California Cotton Center Expands Research Staff And Methods
The research center under Turner has increased its program in two years with 13 resident staff plus 11 UC specialists visiting regularly. Plans call for two more disease and soil specialists next year to complete the team. Greenhouse work halves the four year seed-to-farm timeline, enabling December flowering and April harvest. 80 to 100 experiments this year seek drought resistance, earlier harvests, cheaper high grades, and improved picking and ginning processes for the California variety.

School leaders discuss mass media at Fresno meeting
Crawford superintendent Ross Harrington chaired a Saw School Supervisors association session in Fresno last Friday. Bot Bann of Shafter spoke on using radio to disseminate school information while the group debated mass media in education.
Ag Man of the Year to be honored in Shafter park
State assemblyman Pat Kelly and Kern county officials including supervisors Woottomes Mold Floyd Ming Vance Webb and Salzer will attend the Kern County Board of Trade awards ceremony. Directors Clemens Lake Jones Newby Footman Morley Harrison Burtch Camp Smith and other agricultural leaders will present the annual trophy in the county park at Shafter in the afternoon of May 28 after the Legion barbecue.

Music Awards Budget Report and PTA Update
Mrs. John Dalke presented a new budget of 3 765.25 that was adopted. The PTA convention at Shrine auditorium in Los Angeles was reported by Mrs. Toews with attendees including Mrs. Tillman Bergman and Goede Bruce M Crawford the district superintendent discussed progress from the Morrisett survey and items for the school year. A total budget of 740 253 was cited. Music Scholarship winners provided the program and fourth grade room representatives served refreshments.
