Maple School plans a student walk-a-thon to raise funds for the school. Students gather pledges through May 11, 1988 with a grand prize for the student collecting the most pledges and an ice cream party for the class that brings in the most pledges.
Jim Kliewer of Bakersfield will be guest speaker at the Shafter Wasco Christian Business Men's Committee lunch this Thursday May 12 at Yee's Steak House Shafter. He works with an investment retirement and management firm and has past roles with Dean Witter Investments and Wycliffe Bible Translators in Chile. The CBMC meets Thursdays through May, lunch starts 12 noon, and all men are invited with a guest.
Carson & Barnes Circus brings more than 200 beasts from Siberia Africa and Asia to Shafter on Monday May 16 with performances at 4 pm and 8 pm. Sponsored by Shafter Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture, advance tickets cost 1 and are on sale at Star’s Drugs Draddy’s Central Floor and Buttonwillow Commerce.
