Shafter Public Utility District faced a postponed election after the 1 pm start time in Midgley due to absent ballots tally books and other election items. Directors and the write-in faction traded sharp barbs as plans to run the election collapsed, with a new date anticipated and voters urged to obtain ballots and stamps for future polls.
Miss Jean Syme of the National Youth Administration plans to visit Shafter within a week or two to contact youths and young married women aged 16 to 25. She notes defense industry training is increasingly needed and resident center training can reach outlying individuals through centers in Sacramento for youths and San Luis Obispo for boys only. Training lasts 6 to 14 weeks with room and medical care provided at no cost, overseen by trained staff and a graduate nurse on duty 24 hours.

Pfc. Louis E. Starrh, son of Mr. and Mrs. Geran Starrh of Shafter Route 1 Box 220 A, Detroit training at Buick Motor Division GMC in Detroit Michigan completed Aircraft Engine Overhaul course. He will be assigned to an AAF unit to apply his new skill keeping aircraft in top condition. Starrh previously served at Minter Field and now joins Major General Weaver's command.

Nikkel 20 of Shafter California arrived at Iowa State Teachers College Cedar Falls for Army Air Forces Aviation Cadet training He will take academic courses and elementary flying training and after completion be classified as a pilot or navigator under the command for training in these specialties
Four Heinrichs brothers are listed in military service. Pfc John Heinrichs serves as a mechanic in the Air Force stationed in Lincoln. Pfc Heinrichs from Pleven in the Pacific has served on Guadalcanal after time in Iceland. The other brothers Isaac and Jack Heinrods are in service with assignments tied to Santa Ana and Parris Island, So Carolina.

War Food Administration chief Chester Davis urges farmers to plant to the limit for critical war crops. He says expanded production of feed grains and other staples is essential to sustain livestock output and support the war effort. The administration will mobilize labor and coordinate with manufacturers to secure harvesting machinery and help with harvests.
