Canteen Returned After 60 Years To Shafter Soldier
Buck Private William Lachenmaier of Shafter, a 1937 Shafter High School graduate who served in Company A of the 46 Engineers, carved his name on a canteen during World War II. The relic, carried across the South Pacific, was shipped back to him by FedEx after 60 years, sparked by a chance discovery by William Warner in Kentucky.
