California Potato Week postponed from May 14 to May 21 26 as growers cite the 1951 potato crop arriving in good condition. Don Maupin executive secretary notes the change. Fred D. Patterson president adds markets show satisfactory supplies.
At Richland School during Schools Week Phil Crowell of Em Mettler and Sons demonstrated their mobile radio telephone system. Bert Ware accompanied Crowell at the event and eighth grade students participated in the interview arranged by Miss Helen Holmes.
The undersigned certify they operate a well drilling and water service business in Shafter Kern County California under the fictitious firm name Sage Bretters. Names listed include Pawers A and W L Sage with addresses in Shafter. Witnessed May 3 1951 by H L Sage and W L Sage. Public notice filed in county records.
The Shafter School Band and Glee Club directed by Ernest Graf present an annual civic concert at 7 45 p m Tuesday in the Shafter area Hall. The event is free and sponsored by the Shafter Recreation and Cultural group under Roy Far re. Citizens of the Shafter area are invited to attend. Officers of the Shafter Junior Women's Club will be installed at 8 pm next Tuesday at a dinner in West's Motel with Mrs William Duerksen as president.
The county hearing clinic tested 24 Richland School pupils to determine the type, prognosis, and possible aids for each student’s hearing difficulty. Tests were conducted in the county building as part of Kern General Hospital facilities, with prior screening by Helen Tox, speech therapist.
The Shafter High School Parent Association executive board met at 340 Manuel Ave May 1 to discuss the PTA scholarship. President Mrs. Peter Bergen announced tomorrow as the last day to file applications for the $200 award. Members present included Mrs. Bergen and other officers, plus Principal Jack Hill.
The discussion centers on federal land rules for potato farming under a new council philosophy. Peters argues farmers seek to keep land while government limits acreage and promotes independence in the potato industry amid claims potatoes are not fattening.
