Nursing training offered in Shafter by local club
At Mayor Adolf Kirschenmann’s request the Business and Professional Women's Club will provide a qualified instructor for a nursing training course at Wheeler High School. The program runs six two hour sessions, twice weekly for three weeks, with classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7 to 9 p.m.

Kern county advertised for bids on two road construction projects of interest to First District residents. Supervisor Ardis Walker reported bids for bituminous treatment of Lerdo Road from Shafter city limits to Palm Avenue, a 3.8 mile stretch.

County Residents Invest in U S Defense Bonds in March
County bond sales totaled 731236. Some 231236.74 was invested in U S Defense Bonds in Kern county for March. County Series E bond sales rose to 222708.24, up 77646.04 from February. May marks the 10th anniversary of first bonds and Defense Bond Month is urged for family purchases.

Busy County Firemen Battle Poles and Cabin Blaze
County firemen handled a busy period with two power pole fires and a cabin blaze. A 6:40 p.m. pole fire near Kimberlina caused 20 dollars in damage with 940 dollars saved. At 12:23 a.m. Sunday a DeWitte Camp cabin fire caused 600 dollars damage, likely from a smoker, tenant Ray Moore. Net saving reached 14,000 dollars for adjoining structure. They also helped Green Acres with a ranch fire and responded to a transformer alarm at Park and Meyers Lanes.
