The final Maple P T A meeting is set for Wednesday afternoon May 9 at Maple School. Officers for the coming year will be elected, with the hot lunch committee hosting and managing refreshments. Pupils will present exhibits including art sewing and manual training work.
Kern County Farm Bureau will hold its annual membership banquet Wednesday May 16 at the Bakersfield Inn. Principal speaker will be Ray B Wis er president of the California Farm Bureau Federation. Tickets available in Shafter from A W Eckman or John De Vincenzo.
Mobilgas and Mobiloil dealers launch a Summer-proofing campaign urging motorists to prevent breakdowns this season. With parts shortages, fewer mechanics, and aging cars, repairs may take weeks. Dealers pledge prompt, effective service to keep vehicles on the road and workers moving until the war ends.
A trash fire started Monday at 2:55 p.m. in the rear of the Shafter Pump and Machine Shop. The owner was T. W. Little. tenants were C. W. Christopher and Dick Prather. County trucks and the Shafter and Frank Russell units responded. no property loss occurred.
A fire department and their wives enjoyed a chicken fry dinner at Richland Grammar School. Guest of honor Frank Johnson will leave May 4 to enter the armed forces and was given a travel case as a going away gift. Reels of pictures entertained attendees.

Mrs Ed Kirschenman and Mrs Marvin Bender hosted a Sunday evening shower for Mrs Ew ald Goehring with about 30 guests and gifts. Don ald H Anderson writes from the Philippine Islands that he is well and hopes to return home soon, sending thanks to servicemen.
