On March 23 1988 the Kern County Economic Opportunity Corporation board moved to appoint Sharon S Goldsmith the current assistant director for Administration to the interim executive director post at KCEOC.
Joe L. Bassett, son of Freida L. Bassett of Shafter and Darrel L. Bassett of Paso Robles, Calif., has graduated from Air Force basic training at Lackland AFB in Texas. The six weeks covered the Air Force mission, organization and customs, and graduates earn credits toward an associate degree through the Community College of the Air Force. Bassett is a 1986 Shafter High School graduate.
Marine Pfc Teddy A Eubanks son of Ted Eubanks of Shafter completed a six week School of Infantry course at Base Camp Lejeune in North Carolina. He attended classroom instruction and field exercises covering infantry tactics position construction camouflage use of mines demolitions and intra company communications equipment. A 1986 Mission Bay High School graduate in San Diego he joined the Marine Corps in July 1987.
Vic Sharp, who died March 24 1988 in Bakersfield, was honored at a March 26 1986 Church of Christ service in Shafter. He owned Cinderella Motel and Restaurant, served in WWII, and leaves Dessie his wife Donna Sharp two daughters Halsey and S Sharp two sons Scott Tommy Celissa and Casey four grandchildren and a sister Irene Fuller. A daughter Bertha preceded him. Donations to the Church of Christ Memorial Fund.
Patricia Bemiece Wilson of Shafter died recently while under the care of David Morris of the Chief Christmas Shafter. Interment followed in Shafter Memorial Park. She had lived in Shafter since 1941. Survivors include daughter Jane Roark and sister Joann Moffett, plus two grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Kern County Health Department runs monthly immunization clinics across the county. Parents must accompany minors for consent. Registration fees for school entry vaccines are $3 per person, up to $5 per family per visit. Medi Cal CHDP eligible children may receive some vaccines at no charge. Clinics listed include Buttonwillow April 7 and Shafter April 14 at County Building with contact numbers.
The Shafter-Wasco Christian Business Men's Committee hosts a Thursday lunch with Bill Lachenmaier as guest speaker on March 31. Rod Rodney chairs, and the group meets at Yee's Steak House in Shafter from 12 noon to 1 pm with a salad bar buffet and personal testimony. Membership is not required and guests are welcome.
