Taxpayer group blasts new federal pay and tax plan
The National Taxpayer Association urged Congress to halt all new federal spending this year and cut domestic civilian programs to fund military action in Vietnam. It condemned proposed pay raises as inflationary and argued taxing telephone users to fund federal employees’ salaries worsens inflation. The group called for eliminating deficits and revising budget proposals to reduce the deficit by about two billion dollars. It noted federal employee pay and retirement benefits outpace private industry gains.
