Ranger Barraza Killed in Action Near Shafter
Sgt. Barraza, 22, of Bakersfield, died March 18 from wounds in combat near Shafter while serving with USASOC. Sgt. Dale G. M. Brehm, 23, of Turlock, also killed in the same attack. Barraza is the third Kern County soldier to die in a month, with others including Clayton Fort and Adam Zanutto. Barraza posthumously awarded the Purple Heart. family to hold memorial at Shafter Veterans Hall and burial at Hill of Valor.
