Railroads Maintain Low Freight Rates for Potatoes
Gerald E. Duffy of the Santa Fe Railway told Kern County potato growers in Bakersfield that railroads have kept general freight increases down for perishables with hold-downs approved by the ICC. He noted lower costs for refrigerated shipments and cited rising costs in materials and wages, with rail rates rising less than other expenses. He urged growers to publish rates and uphold free-competitive transportation principles.
