Shafter City Council Approves $2.7 Million Water Project
The Shafter City Council approved financing for a $2.7 million water project that includes a 2.3 million gallon storage tank under construction. The plan covers about $135,000 annually for 20 years, with completion of the tank expected in August. Remaining funds will fund lines and booster pumps to meet peak demands, while one of six wells remains unused due to unsafe DBCP levels. Last June water rates rose 45 percent to help cover improvement costs.
