Shafter Council denies Meyer's Big Stop liquor appeal
The Shafter City Council upheld the Planning Commission ruling denying Meyer's Big Stop Store owner Gurmit S. Joshan a conditional use permit to sell hard liquor for off site consumption. The decision cited existing liquor outlets, three schools, and pedestrian traffic as reasons the permit would not meet zoning criteria. Resident Sandy Grundy spoke in support at the March 15 meeting saying the store caters to customers' requests.
