Stolen Bikes Highlight Shafter Police Report Week
Bicycles were stolen from several residents in Shafter between March 5 and 9 including two bikes from Norma Anderson at 654 Acacia. A bicycle reported stolen by Eva Hill led to a citation for petty theft for Bobby Flowers. Tim Miller’s bicycle was removed from his yard during the night. Shoplifting incidents involved four rings from Sprouse Reitz and two juveniles released to parents after shoplifting from a food store. A vehicle registered to Victor Ramos was stolen and later recovered. A malicious mischief report cited an aerial broken from a parked car on Central Avenue. The festival parade and carnival events with entertainment and booths are planned for May 3–4, with winners announced April 20.

Cotton Planting Delayed and Acreage Up in Shafter
Ground temperatures around 50 to 58 degrees hold for planting as Gene Campbell and others forecast a late start around the 22nd. Despite slow start and wet conditions, Shafter cotton acreage is rising by 10 to 15 percent due to high contract prices and lack of set aside provisions.
