City earns state award for second year in row
City manager John Guinn announced that the city received the California Society of Municipal Finance Officers award for the second consecutive year for its Conservative financial position and staff work. The city submits a Comprehensive Annual Financial Report to two agencies for independent review, aiming to qualify for their awards. Grainger Named Mother of the Year Nominee in Southern California
Nancy Grainger of Shafter selected by the Southern California Chapter of the National MS Society as their nominee for the 50th Annual National MS Society Mother of the Year Award. Diagnosed with MS in 1955, she supports her children Michael and twins Alice and Amber while working for Richland School District. Nancy leads Shafter 4-H Club activities, chairs Kern County 4-H Fashion Review, volunteers with Shafter High boosters and Richland PTA, and teaches sewing and 4-H projects.
