Three Fires Hit Shafter Week Causing Damage and Outages
Three fires in Shafter this week caused several hundred dollars in damage and left most of the town without electricity for about four hours Sunday. A palm tree on Lerdo Road was ignited by an electric wire at 10:30 a.m. and severed the line, cutting power until 2:30 p.m. Earlier, a cigarette left at the State theatre ignited seats. Late Wednesday, lightning struck a power pole, shorting a switch box and burning the McClellan home at Buttonwillow Highway and Enos Lane, destroying it before firefighters arrived. Mrs. McClellan had previously been burned out at two other residences.
