Kern Oral Language Festival Heats Kern County Stage
Four hundred students from Kern County schools will perform in the 26th Kern County Oral Festival on March 18 and 20 1997 at 9 30 a m in the Blair Performing Arts Center Bakersfield. Grades 4-6 perform March 18 and grades 7-8 March 20 with trophies for top three and first place speeches at 12 p m daily. Contact Patricia Giles at 636 4637 for details.

SHS Leaders Attend Business Ethics Conference
On March 4 1997 five Shafter High School students joined 120 attendees at the annual Business Leadership and Ethics Conference held at the Red Lion Inn Bakersfield. Kern Rotary Clubs and Kern High School District organized the event with SHS leaders Desatoff Jacob Nixon and Rosa Sanchez among the facilitators.

Scholar athlete Chou shines with wide activity at SHS
At SHS Chou participates in cross country soccer and track and earned multiple scholar athlete honors. She helped the 1996 SYL Championship Track team and holds awards for most scholarly and honor roll. As a member of the Califor demic Decathlon Mock Trial and other clubs she is quadrilingual.
