Mardi Gras Shrove Tuesday at St Mark's Shafter
St Mark's Episcopal Church in Shafter held a Mardi Gras on Shrove Tuesday February 22 replacing its annual Pancake Supper. Larry Gray and Doug Tramel organized a Basque dinner wine costumes noise-makers music and dancing for a very successful evening.

Services held for Mrs Burns meau in Texas obituary
Richland School district notes Mrs Willie L Burns died March 2 at home after a long illness. Funeral was held in New Boston with Rev John Davis and Jim Collies officiating. She leaves two sons, six daughters, one brother, 32 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren. Interment followed in New Boston Texas.

Shafter 4 H Club Plans Muscular Dystrophy Drive
The Shafter 4 H Club will conduct a house to house collection for the Muscular Dystrophy Association on Saturday March 19 with cans at local stores. Co chairs Kenneth Harlander and Daniel Ortiz led the effort as the club earned a Citation of Merit from MCAA regional director Barney Clamidge.

Civil Ceremony Unites Mr and Mrs Norman Jones
June Allen daughter of George Allen wed Norman Jones son of Wanda Jones at a February 7 ceremony conducted by Judge Kelly Steele. The bride wore a pink velvet trimmed gown and carried pink roses. Kathleen Garland attended, Randy Garland served as best man. The couple plans a later honeymoon and resides at Village Arms in Shafter.
