Jack Hare of the local Veterans Service Center announces liberalized National Service Life Insurance features. Vets may reinstate lapsed NSLI policies without a medical exam until August 1 by signing a health statement and paying two monthly premiums.
Beginning Thursday the First Aid classes will meet at the Fire Station instead of the County Building. The change allows firemen to participate since their duties require them to be at the fire station.
Louis M. Dreves regional director for the Civilian Production Administration construction division says standard grade hardwood flooring output will rise 80 to 95 percent this year over 1946. He credits higher lumber production, premium payments to flooring producers and their supplies, and OPA price actions for the expected boost.
The Civilian Production Administration reports about 305000 tons of steel will be allocated in 1947 for housing. Louis M. Dreves, CPA regional director, says the plan replaces the prior priority system and will supply steel for around 300000 homes in April through June. The program aligns with ending controls on basic commodities while non housing construction remains under Veterans Housing Program Order 1.
The Ladies Aid of the Union Congregational Church will hold an all day sewing meeting next Tuesday. A potluck lunch will be served and the day spent sorting and mending boxes of clothing donated to the Salvation Army.
F H A supplies land planning consultants from the Federal Housing Administration to assist developers and builders in rental housing projects. John E. McGovern, District Director, says consultants bring wide experience in land development and subdivisions planning, aiding good site selection and planning for tenant appeal. Title VI of the National Housing Act allows FHA to insure mortgages up to 90 percent of current costs including land and structures, with rental preference given to World War II veterans.
