Pulpit Answer on Life Meaning and God’s Plan
The answer affirms life has meaning beyond chance and that each person is unique. It asserts a personal life plan from God, tailored to individuality, talents, and desires, and suggests deep longing is satisfied by divine purpose.
Shafter Beginnings and Early Town Development
The Kern County Land Company laid out Shafter in 1913 after track reached Fresno to Bakersfield in 1898. Early settlers included N E Vandem and Harry Scaroni with multiple land acquisitions by 1914. A 109 family Adventist Mennonite colony nearby failed, leading families toward the railroad. The Green Hotel opened around Central Avenue and James Street, a water tower was erected, and the first postmaster was Charles Shomate. The 1914 land sale sold 7100 acres, totaling about 27000 surrounding acres. The first school opened in 1914 with eight students, rising to fifteen, and Richland Santa Fe School followed in 1916.
