Year-Round Garden Flourishes at Shafter Home
Mr and Mrs Peter Willis maintain a year round garden at 283 Walnut Street Shafter with thirteen twenty foot rows. The rear yard hosts fruit trees berries herbs and flowers. They plant corn beans okra and tomatoes after Easter and harvest fresh produce from June to fall aided by a roto-tiller and compost piles. The family includes Son Jerry and Daughters Karen and Donna who all benefit from the garden.

Soliz Completes Combat Training Course
Marine Private First Class David T. Soliz son of Art and Mrs Soliz of 338 Atlantic Ave Shafter California completed a six week infantry combat training course at Camp Pendleton California. He received classroom instruction and field practice in infantry tactics fighting positions camouflage mines demolitions intra unit communications and rifle squad fire techniques. A 1977 Shafter High School graduate Soliz joined the Marine Corps in August 1977.

Leaders to be honored at Kern County dinner
Kern County Board of Trade will honor chamber leaders from Kern County March 7 at the Chamber Presidents Dinner.
