On the 184th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, the call urges Americans to celebrate July 4 by pursuing happiness without endangering lives. It warns that reckless driving swimming and play can cost others life or liberty and urges caution this holiday weekend.
July 19 25 marks the 17th National Farm Safety Week with California Farm Bureau leaders urging farmers to reduce hazards on farms and in homes. Norman Liddell notes safety must be year round and integral to daily operations amid rising farm injury trends. Mary Casey adds farmers should lead families in safety accountability as mechanization increases hazards.
At the Governor's Conference on gas supply in Los Angeles Senior Vice President W. M. Jacobs of Southern California, Southern Counties Gas Cos, and Pacific Lighting Gas Supply Co pledged to protect the public interest by supplying energy at the lowest possible price. He noted need for new reserves, stressed adequacy of supply, and highlighted cost controls and opposition to unwarranted price hikes.
The county ASC office must be notified when farm land with acreage allotments or Conservation Reserve contracts is bought or sold. Regulations govern division and combination of farms on transfer. Notification helps update records and may allow ASC consultation before closing to prevent later misunderstandings about allotments.
