The Kern County District Attorney’s Truancy Program and Kern Regional Center spoke at the Shafter Collaborative on June 21 to outline services for residents. Deputy DA Vikki DelPellegrino said truancy is a gateway to crime and highlighted the program’s five year growth and interagency cooperation with Judge Gary Ingle and multiple districts including Ridgecrest Lake Isabella and Arvin. The program assigns three attorneys to various schools and focuses on keeping students in class toward graduation.
