Montgomery clarifies welfare employment policy
California Welfare Director John C. Montgomery says the strengthened policy aids the economy and needy, not solve labor shortages. Welfare offices are not employment agencies. employed recipients are handled by the State Department of Employment after referrals. Local cooperation is urged to set standards for referrals and to ensure maximum use of employable welfare recipients by farms and the state. A summary of the policy notes disqualification for lack of good cause to work during peak harvest and the recipient’s responsibility to prove such cause. The piece also covers the California Fish and Game Commission considering 32 deer hunts for 1968 69 and an antelope hunt in Modoc and surrounding counties, plus a Tejon deer hunt. It ends with Rotary District 524 Assembly coverage in Oildale.
