Whaley Anniversary Party Ends In California
Weldon and Pauline Whaley were surprised with a party at Stringham Park for their 25th wedding anniversary, hosted by 57 guests. The event featured fried chicken, chili beans, salads, Pink Champagne cake and gifts. The couple married in Knox Indiana in 1952 and moved to California in 1956. Their family includes eight children and seven grandchildren. The piece also notes Rhonda Epp marrying Tom Thompson May 7 in Shafter with a Church of Christ ceremony. The Thompsons reside in Shafter with Mrs Thompson employed at her father’s store and Mr Thompson a Bakersfield finance officer.

Legion Post Hosts Joint Installation Across Wasco And Shafter
The Shafter and Wasco American Legion Posts along with the Wasco Auxiliary held a joint installation on June 11. Wasco provided a buffet, Auxiliary member Kathy Morgan served as installing officer, and the Past Commanders Club inducted officers for 1977 78 with Shafter naming Richard G. Curly James as Commander and a slate including Potter Marchman Brown Thomas Butler Sullivan Williams among others.

A Flag Day program at CES featured La Rosa Chapter 146 Eastern Star meeting on Monday June 13 with Faye and Irvin Barr presenting. Dottie Hebel and Herbert Kramer presided. red white and blue decor and U S flag were noted. refreshments followed. Next meeting slated for June 27 at 8 PM in Wasco Masonic Temple. Pauline and Perry Copeland honored with a surprise potluck and money tree at a June 15 gathering hosted by Jack and Het Hammons in Bakersfield.
