Potatoes Run Early As Shafter Harvest Debates Timing
In Shafter in 1929 farmers see early potatoes sold at high prices while agronomist L W Taylor tests whether digging early yields more profit or waiting for full maturity yields more. A chart shows yield per acre rising from May 23 to July 5, with price adjustments needed to hit $850 per acre. Santa Rosa plums open season with first car shipped June 10, and a public display lists potato shipments from June 5 to July 1 with prices per sack.
