The Kern County Medical Society reports that most heart attacks result from diseased arteries rather than heart tissue. arteries harden and thicken over time, narrowing the blood channel and impairing oxygen flow to the heart muscle.
The Union Congregational Church Junior High Sunday School class hosted a two day retreat at Greenhorn Mountain Park with a campfire program star light hike discussions and a Sunday Peak hike. Guest speaker Bill Baker from Young Life Bakersfield delivered an inspirational message. Attendees included Lisa Haworth Diana Wiedmann Monica Brannen and others. Also notes cover heart attack symptoms and treatment with medically toned guidance.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Agee Family Funeral Home Shafter for Homer Parker who died Friday evening at his home. The 81 year old was born in Ava Missouri October 16 1886 and lived in Missouri Arkansas before moving to Shafter twelve years ago. He married Mable Guinn in Oso Arkansas June 30 1932 and was a WWI veteran with the American Legion. Survivors include widow Mabel son Walter G Parker Jr and three brothers Henry Isom and Immer all of Oklahoma. Pallbearers were Otto Young David Trout Jim Fowler Jerry Fowler J C Latt and T D Bayles.
Mrs. Kathryn Pederson 79 wife of Nels Pederson of Bakersfield died after illness in North Hollywood hospital while visiting daughter Margaret Hovey. Funeral and memorial services were held in Shafter and Burbank with graveside tribute by Cris Hovey. Survived by husband two daughters and one son with four grandchildren. Memorials to Union Congregational church fund.
