CHP Cautions Pedestrians Often at Fault in Accidents
California Highway Patrol commissioner Bradford M. Crittenden warns that drivers are not always to blame when a pedestrian is struck. In 1963 alone California saw 14 437 pedestrians injured or killed with about a thousand drinking. Pedestrian violations like jaywalking and stepping from between parked cars contribute to crashes especially at night when drivers may not see dark clothing. Pedestrians should use lighted intersections and cross only when sure of time and visibility.
