Richland at large voting rejected by Shafter voters
Shafter voters defeated Measure D by a 2 to 1 margin, keeping RLSD trustees elected at large. The measure aimed to switch RLSD from at large to trustee area elections amid MAPA pressure for Hispanic representation. Precinct results showed only two precincts voting yes, while overall turnout was 27.3 percent with 975 of 3,576 registered voters casting ballots. Melero remains on the RLSD board after strong support. MAPA leader Ben Benavidez threatened further action against RLSD and Tulare authorities amid the defeat.
