Taft Field Commander Guest At Local Meeting
Major K C McGregor commander of Taft U S army airfield was guest of local business and club women at a noon luncheon at Crawford's cafe. He discussed permanent Taft and Shafter fields, housing plans, and that about 20 percent of stationed men will marry and live off post. Eugene Ford spoke on a recreation fund drive and local support, with motions to continue work and cooperate with Taft on army matters. Others from Taft and Bakersfield attended.

Graduation Fills Gymnasium With Standing Room Only
A packed gymnasium heard Dr. Elam J. Anderson of Redlands University urge the class of 1941 to defend the American way of life through work and self reliance. Invocation was by Rev. William Jackson, with music from a girls’ double trio and the high school band. Ruben Mettler, the senior class president, spoke as diplomas were presented by Chester O’Neill of the Kern County Union High School District board.

U S O May Manage Building In City Of Shafter
George Martin of U S O says Shafter Taft or Kern County will not get a U S O building this year due to higher demand elsewhere. The organization plans 320 defense club buildings nationwide and seeks about 11 million dollars to equip them, with Shafter possibly rented locally if a suitable building becomes available.
