A Pearl Harbor Memorial at Minter Field in Shafter featured a posthumous salute to Marine Corporal Lawrence Bud Newman who shot down a Japanese plane. His family attended with a video interview while artifacts a propeller and a flag from the USS Arizona were shown. Museum board member Dan Jones noted 11,000 troops trained at Minter Field during World War II as visitors toured the historic hangar and aircraft this summer.
