The special awards assembly honored outstanding seniors for scholarship and activity. Phi Beta Kappa winners Marion Mettler Barbara Wroten John DeVincenzo Karen Clarkin and Roy Jones received gold medals. Silver high honors went to Dan Contreras Robert Mettler Lucille Wiebe Marilyn Smith and Parry Weyand. Contestants for Constable of Shafter district include Noble Blake Witcher and Powell Leong with June 8 primary.

Youths Caught After Attempted Robbery at Midway Market
Shafter police detained Jackie Hart 20 of Torrance and Gerald Mayo of Los Angeles after an attempted robbery at Midway Market in North Shafter. Officers recovered a large amount of goods hidden across the railroad tracks. Store owner Leslie Williams filed a complaint and awaits trial at Broan Jail.

Richland Graduation Exercises Held Tuesday Evening
