Kiwanis honors two Terrific Kids at Shafter luncheon
Two Richland School students William Lopez and Katelyn Rugenburg were named Terrific Kids for their academic effort helpfulness and cheerful attitude at a Shafter Kiwanis luncheon. David Mack of Boy Scout Troop 913 spoke about his eagle project to install two flower planters with sprinklers at Richland School costing 1700 dollars. Dr Len McMillan presented a five day anti stress plan detailing worry reduction steps and his video series.

Grapes Boosted by Mycorrhizae In Vineyard Study Onfiests
Wayne Smith reports on a three year trial where grapevines treated with mycorrhizae showed better water uptake and growth than untreated vines. In year one 24 vines across six plots suffered only 10 percent loss when pumps failed, while untreated plots lost up to 60 percent. By year three the treated vines yielded raisins with no sand or mildew after drying on the vine, and the USDA confirmed quality at Sun Made. The mycorrhizae were applied once, with benefits spreading to nearby plants.

Harold Dykstra age 76 of Shafter died May 15 1999. Graveside services conducted May 21 1999 at Redlands Cemetery Redlands with Rev. Chet Droog officiating. He was born June 8 1922 in Racine Wisconsin served in WWII and later worked in police and CHP. Survived by four children six grandchildren two great grandchildren. Donations to Shafter Mennonite Brethren Building Fund.
