Deadline Nears for Unsecured Property Tax Bills in Kern County
Kern County Treasurer Jackie Denney announces the unsecured property tax deadline is August 31. Unsecured taxes cover items like business and farm equipment, aircraft, and boats not attached to real estate. Bills go to known addresses as of January 1, 2009. payments can be made in person, by mail, or online with cards or electronic checks. A 10 percent penalty applies if paid after August 31. Street Racing Task Force Nabs 163 in CHP Sweep
On July 25 2009 at about 1130 p.m. the CHP Street Racing Task Force halted an illegal race on Garces Highway west of SR 43 Enos Lane. About 250 to 300 spectators watched as officers blocked exits and arrested 163 participants aged 13 to 26 for aiding an illegal street race. Runners came from Visalia Lindsay Wasco Delano Shafter Bakersfield and San Diego. The operation involved 15 officers and one sergeant.
