Construction starts on a 50 foot frontage brick building opposite Bank of America. The 3,000 square foot structure, leased for ten years by Payne's from F W Handel of Shafter and E F Handel of Lodi, will house dry goods gents furnishings and shoes. The current Payne grocery will become a dedicated market. Corene Payne will direct the new store with T C Payne managing the grocery. Jack Isaac holds the erection contract.

Extra electricity totaling 2 316 640 kilowatt hours was used by customers of San Joaquin Light and Power and Midland Counties Public Service.
