Fire damages Nixon home from matches mishap in Shafter
City and county firefighters battled a July 13 house blaze at 325 Redwood Drive Shafter caused when two children playing with matches ignited a plastic doll that was tossed into straw and spread via fence and vegetation to the attic. Damages estimated at 20 000 to structure and 4 000 to contents. builders estimate up to 50 000. Firefighters ventilated the roof and fought the blaze from below amid heat and dense smoke. Deacon Whitfield Dies During Truelight Church Service
Daniel Whitfield 77 long-time deacon at Wasco's Truelight Baptist Church died of a heart attack Sunday July 10 after addressing pastor Rev Jesse Riggins on the church's tenth anniversary. Funeral held July 16 at the church with Rev Smith officiating. interment at Shafter Cemetery.
