Double Header Scheduled By Merchants Tonight

Shafter Merchants will play a double header on the Richland diamond this evening facing the Civitan Juniors of Bakers in the opener and an all star team from the city recreation league in the second game. Probable moundmen for the Merchants are Pilly and Raloi Lachenmaier with Elijger Lichenaier behind the plate. In the infield are Duk, Gac de, Janzen, Rodgers, Annis or passing Taylor. in the outfield Mettler, Campbell and possibly Trent. The All-Stars lineup has not yet been announced.

Shafter Motel City’s Newest Modern Building Opens

Sixty thousand Department of Agriculture employees have been added since Henry A. Wallace became secretary. The Shafter Motel, a Spanish style two building unit on Lerdo Road, opens this week under Walter Powell and Carlton Powell. Each room has individual climate control, Simmons beds, inner spring mattresses, private baths with instant hot water, and radio connections. Interior finishes are soft greens and yolobe, with provisions for single or family accommodations and a combined closet dressing area. Door numbers feature a novel stencil design.
