Shafter residents and visitors shared Fourth of July activity across California. Dean Lockard of Bakersfield visited his mother Mrs. Birch Lockard, while fishing parties on Kern River reported two trout limits. Local residents hosted guests from Long Beach Los Angeles San Jose Porterville and Fresno.
A Sunday picnic at Mooney Grove included Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Pierce, Mr. and Mrs. W. P. Pierce of Delano, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Ward of Ivanhoe Exeter, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Weaver of Sultana, Mr. and Mrs. Ruben Barry of Munson, and Mrs. Alpha Sturgen of Visalia.
Friends and relatives gathered in Hanford Shafter Kernville and Long Beach during the holiday weekend. Mr and Mrs Bob McLeod hosted visitors, the McLeods joined Jack Wastbinder at Kernville, and a Stockton couple with a Hollywood guest spent the fourth with the Sander son family. Peltier attended a Shafter Business Men's Association meeting. Hare Henderson Grimm vacationed in Long Beach fishing from their boat.
Mrs. Katie Cook returns from a two week vacation at Redondo Beach. Jean Protheroe of Cleveland visits Shafter from July 3 to this Monday at Rev. Al Chandler's home. Mr. and Mrs. Ruthman depart Shafter for Portsmouth Ohio to visit relatives for several weeks. Nearby visitors include Mr. and Mrs. Hollis of Delano and others from Oxnard Wasco Taft and Long Beach. Tom Wedge vacationing in San Jose and Yosemite Valley. Fuqua and wife spend days in southern California and Catalina Island. Delano visitors Ray and Ray Dean Cress spend the Fourth in Shafter. Walter Warken tine Lena Shultz visit Pismo Beach.
