Shafter Sees Minor Holiday Mishaps After July 4
Shafter residents enjoyed a safe holiday with only one major traffic accident. Adilio Alcantar Purneda collided with a Santa Fe locomotive at Central Ave crossing, injuring a passenger Esmeralda Garza Valdez who was hospitalized but not seriously hurt. Alcantar was uninjured. Remaining incidents included two minor car collisions and a bicycle theft reported from Richland School Aquatic Center.

The Richland School District Board of Trustees reelected all officers at Monday’s meeting. President Phil Zachary was kept in place. Arthur Penner and Dave Anderson also retained roles with Dr E David Cooke and Fred Starrh continuing as representatives. The board approved further revisions to two new school units and prepared for a summer groundbreaking. They authorized Mrs Delores Witcher to sign warrants and arranged for the county to send warrants to her as financial secretary. Regular meetings will stay on the first and third Mondays plus a 10 cent per mile auto allowance. Architects Robert F Stuhr reviewed deletions in plans for the music and administration buildings while Biggar Construction Company of Bakersfield handles the contracts totaling 266000 dollars. Administrative building with music complex cost 228360 dollars and 37300 dollars went to cooling system installation. Deletions to 5700 dollars were discussed as bids exceeded estimates.
