Soledad Mission History From Rise To Ruins And Reforms
The article traces Mission Soledad from its peak in 1805 with 688 neophytes through decline after 1810 due to disease and shortages. It notes leadership by Fr. Engelhardt and Fr. Sarria, aid to soldiers after 1815, the 1822 oath of allegiance to Mexico, the 1826 election record by Alcalde Geronimo, later neglect, a 1834 decree reducing the mission to a curacy, and eventual ruin by 1841 with later sales and restoration references.
