Ground breaks on 7th Standard Road expansion
Groundbreaking ceremonies at the International Trade and Transportation Center marked the start of a widening project for 7th Standard Road in Shafter and Kern County. The plan includes multiple phases, with Phase I in 2008 building a new overpass at 7th Standard and Highway 99 and Phase II progressing toward a grade separation at the same overpass near Coffee Road. The third phase will add lanes to 7th Standard Road up to Zachary Road, with Mayor Cathy Prout noting future completion includes an at grade separation over Santa Fe Way and the road's extension toward I-5. Mayor Prout and Kern County Representative Jon McQuiston helped push the project since 1998 as part of the Kern Council of Governments.
