Shafter Fourth of July events and local activities
Shafter marks its July 4 program with a gala sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce. A Tri-Tip dinner runs 5 to 8 pm followed by a 7:30 pm community band performance and a fireworks show around 9 pm. The Farmers Market operates Wednesdays 3 to 6 pm in the James Street Central area, and Depot Museum hosts a monthly open date July 6 with new displays. Rehabilitation programs expand hours. Summer Reading at the Shafter Library runs June 10 to August 3 with twice weekly movies and silkscreen crafts. A Beach Trip for Youth and Adults departs July 6.

Airport Directors Approve 1991 92 Budget With Grants
Minter Field Airport District board approved a 1992 budget after wrangling over wording. Nelson said the budget is about twice last year’s, citing about 800000 in grants that are not expected to recur. The district plans a parallel taxiway for the main runway funded by grants, with total revenue of 1536579 and expenditures of 1503111 across six cost centers including GA airport industrial water WWTF and agriculture.
