Dozens of stars highlight Mid-State Fair schedule
Dozens of stars perform on four free stages at the Mid-State Fair in Paso Robles from August 7 to 18. Headliners include Doug Kershaw, Ray Stevens, The Lettermen, The New Christy Minstrels and Sandi Powell among others. Admission runs four dollars for adults, three for 12 to 15, one for 6 to 11, with free entry for under six. season passes are 12, eight, and four respectively.

Banks learns about leading California agriculture through institute
Brenda Banks of Shafter joined 30 California educators from 18 countries at the second Summer Agricultural Institute in Sacramento. The five day program by the California Farm Bureau Federation covered farming operations, food processing and agricultural economics with tours, lectures, and farm family stays. Banks, a Elk Hills School District teacher, was the sole Kern County participant and spent an evening with farm family Cliff and Debbie Van Till in Manteca.
