Tuberculosis Decline Brings Prosperity for Farm Families
Dorothy Wilkinson of the Agricultural Extension Service notes that Tuberculosis threats to children have diminished as American cattle are now nearly free of the disease. Twenty five years ago one in 80 animals were condemned, causing financial losses and spread of bone tuberculosis among thousands of children. Inspections at major cattle markets show only about one in 7,300 condemned today, reflecting a 25 year fight by farm groups, government agencies, and veterinarians that improved child health and farm profits.
